Senior Designated Person

The role of Senior and Deputy Designated Person is not only a statutory requirement of the school, but is also vital in the day to day commitment to safeguarding children.  It is explicit within Section 175/157 of the Education Act that the Senior Designated Person should comply with the following requirements:

  • SDP is a member of the Senior Management Team
  • The SDP role is explicit within their job / role description
  • Has undertaken Level 3 “Working Together” or “Working Together Refresher” training, as provided by HSCB, within the last 2 years
  • Undertakes other specific Level 3 safeguarding training in order to continuously update knowledge

Schools should also refer to Keeping Children Safe in Education 2016 for further guidance regarding the roles and responsibilities of the Senior Designated Person.
